Description:

Complement component C3 plays a central role in the activation of complement system. Its activation is required for both classical and alternative complement activation pathways. It is thought that the complement system might play a role in many diseases with an immune component, such as Alzheimer's disease, asthma, lupus erythematosus, various forms of arthritis, autoimmune heart disease and multiple sclerosis. Deficiencies of the terminal pathway predispose to both autoimmune disease and infections (particularly meningitis). Human Complement 3c (C3c) is currently used as an an immunogen and is the inactive form of Human Complement 3.
