Recombinant Human VEGF 165 is a disulfide-linked homodimeric protein consisting of two 166 amino acid polypeptide chains.
Background: Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor is a potent growth and angiogenic cytokine. It stimulates proliferation and survival of endothelial cells, and promotes angiogenesis and vascular permeability. Expressed in vascularized tissues, VEGF plays a prominent role in normal and pathological angiogenesis. Substantial evidence implicates VEGF in the induction of tumor metastasis and intra-ocular neovascular syndromes. VEGF signals through the three receptors; fms-like tyrosine kinase (flt-1), KDR gene product (the murine homolog of KDR is the flk-1 gene product) and the flt4 gene product.

Biological Activity:

Fully biologically active when compared to standard. The ED50 determined by a cell proliferation assay using human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) is typically 1-6 ng/mL. This corresponds to a specific activity of 1 x 10e6 units/mg.

Reconstitution:

Centrifuge vial prior to opening. Add sterile distilled water to a concentration of 0.1 mg/ml. Suspend the product by gently pipetting the solution down the sides of the vial. DO NOT VORTEX. Allow several minutes for complete reconstitution.

Storage/Stability:

Product is stable at 2-8°C, but should be kept desiccated at -20°C to -80°C for long term storage. Upon reconstitution, the preparation is stable for up to one week at 2-8°C or for longer terms keep working aliquots at -20°C to -80°C.
