FFAR4 encodes a protein known as Free fatty acid receptor 4, a G-protein coupled receptor which belongs to the rhodopsin family of GPRs. FFA4 signals via a G(q)/G(11)- coupled pathway and is a receptor for medium and long-chain free fatty acids, including omega-3, and mediates potent insulin sensitizing and antidiabetic effects by repressing macrophage-induced tissue inflammation. Free Fatty Acid receptors are a group of Gq/11 protein-coupled receptors currently classified into FFA1, FFA2, FFA3 and FFA4 subtypes. These receptors are concentrated in pancreatic islet cells, immune cells and in the brain and are important in immunity and metabolism. The receptor is available in the following formats: stable over-expression cell line, membrane preparation, or purified receptor in HEK293 or CHO. Various tagged versions are available.
