P2RY12 encodes P2Y purinoceptor 12, a protein belonging to the family of G-protein coupled receptors. Eight different mammalian P2Y (P2Y1, 2, 4, 6, 11-14) receptor subtypes have been characterized. The P2Y12 receptor is a chemoreceptor for ADP. It is not activated by UDP and UTP. The protein is known to be expressed in platelets. Platelet activation by ADP plays a crucial role in hemostasis and thrombosis. The coactivation of P2YR1 and P2RY12 is necessary for full platelet aggregation in response to ADP. The receptor is available in the following formats: stable over-expression cell line, membrane preparation, or purified receptor in HEK293 or CHO. Various tagged versions are available.
