Canonical K+ channels are tetrameric and highly selective for K+, whereas two-pore domain K+ channels form dimers but with similar pore architecture. KCNK2 is a member of the superfamily of potassium channel proteins containing two pore-forming P domains and its expression is particularly high in brain and heart neurons.
