Description:
Human Cathepsin G (CTSG) is a serine protease, and a member of the peptidase S1
protein family, located in the azurophil granules of neutrophils. Studies have shown that
CTSG when released from granulocytes binds to NK cells and augments NK cytotoxicity
through its protease activity. CTSG has a specificity similar to that of Chymotrypsin C,
and may participate in the killing and digestion of engulfed pathogens, and in connective
tissue remodeling at sites of inflammation. Transcript variants utilizing alternative
polyadenylation signals exist for this gene.
