Description:

Native Human Thyroid Stimulating Hormone is a heterodimeric glycoprotein hormone, comprised of an alpha and beta chain. The alpha chain is shared by glycoprotein hormones: LH, FSH, HCG. The unique beta subunit, TSHB, confers specificity. TSH is produced by thyrotrope cells in the anterior pituitary gland which regulates the thyroid to produce thyroxine (T4) which is converted to triiodothyronine (T3) in the thyroid, liver and other organs to stimulate metabolism. TSH is secreted throughout life but particularly reaches high levels during the periods of rapid growth and development, as well as in response to stress.
