Hrh2 encodes the rat protein known as histamine H2 receptor, a histamine receptor belonging to the family 1 of G-protein-coupled receptors. It is an integral membrane protein found in the gastrointestinal tract, the central nervous system, smooth muscle cells and endothelial cells. It regulates gastrointestinal motility and intestinal secretion and may be involved in regulating cell growth and differentiation. Histamine H2 receptors are involved in the suppressive activities of histamine, a ubiquitous messenger molecule released from mast cells, enterochromaffin-like cells, and neurons. The actions of histamine are mediated by histamine receptors H1, H2, H3 and H4. The receptor is available in the following formats: stable over-expression cell line, membrane preparation, or purified receptor in HEK293 or CHO. Various tagged versions are available.
